日本人講師KGStrategyについては過去２回書きましたが、一番大切な「個人課題/Individual assignment」について書くのを忘れたのでここに追加します。
さて、この個人課題は一体どういうものか？至ってシンプル、ある企業の現状を理解し新しい戦略を立てること。まあ、言うのは簡単ですがやるのは結構大変なんです。
まずは、提示された企業に関するレポートをじっくり読んで理解します。下記にサンプルを一つご紹介します。「Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Ice Cream Inc.: A Period of Transition」というハーバードのケースです。

著作権の問題があるので、私が実際に取り組んだケースは残念ながらお示しできませんが、このサンプルでイメージは湧くかと思います。実際のケースは、約30ページありました。
フィリピン留学では、殊に「スピーキング」ばかりが強調されますが、実際のビジネスや大学・大学院等の留学でまず重要なのは「リーディング」です。事実を素早く正確に理解しないことには、正しい反応をすることはできません。渡英当初は、「こんなに大量に読めるはずない」と思っていたのですが、修士論文を書く頃にはサクサク読めるようになっていました。やはり、何事も訓練ですね。
さて、上記のようなケースに関して、下記のような「課題」が提示されました。ケース同様に、出題者が求めていることを正確に理解する必要があります。実際のビジネスで「顧客のニーズを理解する」ことと同じですね。
Individual Timed Assignment: A Strategic Review of Breakaway
You are required to prepare a 1,500 word report summarising your strategic review of Breakaway.
Breakaway is the market leader in the UK caravan market, but its performance is giving rise to concern.
1, The MD of Breakaway, Jim Benenden, has asked you to review Breakaway’s strategic position
2, and if necessary develop a new strategy to take the company forward. Your review needs to consider the main strategic issues facing Breakaway and an evaluation of their recent performance.
3, If you propose a new strategy, you also need to consider key actions to be taken, implementation timescales and the implications for Breakaway including likely competitor response.
If you do not believe that Breakaway needs a new strategy justify this position and explain what actions the company now needs to take.
The 1,500 word limit is the absolute maximum for the report. Any excess will result in a deduction of marks.
The individual assignment carries 60% of the marks.
